There are several large hospitals located in Marathon County. These include Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital, and Marshfield Medical Center. Each of these facilities employs a large number of people in a variety of positions. Many of these positions are directly related to patient care, such as nurses, doctors, and therapists. Other positions support the work of these direct patient care providers, such as administrative staff, maintenance workers, and food service employees. There are also many non-clinical positions available at these hospitals, such as marketing and human resources.

In addition to the large hospitals, there are also many smaller clinics located throughout Marathon County. These clinics provide primary care services to patients and often have specific focus areas such as pediatrics or family medicine. Many times these clinics are staffed by nurse practitioners or physician assistants rather than traditional doctors. This can provide an excellent opportunity for those interested in working in healthcare but who do not have a medical degree.
