Category Managerwho will be responsible for the management of the purchasing, pricing, placement and display of an assigned Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) category within the company operated convenience store locations with the goal of improving company sales & ultimately profitability.

Functionsas category manager and buyer for an assigned CPG category

Maintain and improveprofitability in company operated sites through effective, unique andconventional retail methods.

Analyzemonthly P&L statements regarding specific categories managed:determining areas of opportunity, creating action plans and working closely with above site operations supervisors to remedy.

P&L responsibility forassigned categories, including budgeting, forecasting and reportingfinancial performance.

Utilizes consumerinsights/trends to develop category plans, including strategies and tactics to deliver projected sales and margin.

Manages product assortmentand sourcing activities for assigned categories; may direct the work ofsubordinate Category Managers or support staff.

Develops supplierpartnerships that utilize available resources to develop differentiatingproducts and programs.

Identifies leverageopportunities and negotiates with suppliers to achieve lowest cost ofgoods.

Determines pricing forassigned categories utilizing retail pricing guidelines to optimizecategory profitability.

Optimizes supply chain toreduce costs, enhance service levels, and improve product availability.

Develops product display and merchandising recommendations within guidelines that drive category results, including development of planogram/schematics that maximizeseasonal opportunities.

Works closely with marketing team on the development/execution of category communication and promotion,including product point of purchase, private label, branding, co-op and advertising.

Develops and communicatescategory information to all levels within the organization. Participatesin weekly/monthly planning and communication meetings.

Generates the highest rebatepayments available for all company operated locations.

Negotiates purchasingcontracts with vendors.

Directs & interacts with other merchandising team personnel (marketing coordinator, Planogram Specialist)Interacts with siteoperators, multisite managers as necessary.

Works closely with Divisionand Territory managers regarding execution, training and marketing.

Resolves all category issues in a timely manner.

Performs on-goingverification of plans against budgeted sales and gross profit and developsplans to address any shortfalls.

Performs other job-relatedprojects and tasks as assigned.

Must be willing to occasionally be physically involved in test sets, resets and set launches.

Overnight travel will be required at times.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, Master’s is a plus.

Minimum 2-5 years in a retail multi-store environment functioning as a category manager or buyer for a minimum of 50 sites or larger.

Minimum 5+ years in multi-unit retail management at category, district, or headquarters level.

Extensive familiarity with MS Word, Power

Point, Excel and other database programs.

Extensive familiarity with P&L analysis.

Capable of making public presentations.

Able to function well in an ambiguous environment where functional direction at time may be undetermined.
