Position Description
The Director of Procurement Packaging (Cans) oversees an organization's purchasing function. Responsible for leading the development and implementation of progressive sourcing strategies that deliver cost efficiencies, supply assurance, and quality in the procurement of direct materials.
Develops policies and procedures related to the procurement of goods and services. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. This position will lead improvement activities, optimizing product sourcing management, cost management, and problem resolution.
A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Key Accountabilities:
Develop and implement key performance indicators, policies and procedures to achieve organizational goals
Bring and enhance supplier Market Knowledge and Insight as a source of innovation and value creation.
Maintain strong relationships with key global suppliers and develop new suppliers as required
Manage functional key performance indicators:
ensure development and reporting of productivity in alignment with procurement Finance.
Negotiate and manage complex relationship with critical suppliers globally
Establish and maintain a supplier performance evaluation system for all suppliers.
Seasoned negotiator and networker with prior contract authority strategies and uncover potential supplier efficiency and cost improvements.
Directs the work of the procurement staff
Provide overall planning, budgeting, and personnel development for the departments and procurement cycle, instruct and encourage professional advancement. Review employee performance evaluation set Objectives.
Negotiates and awards larger (multi-year) contracts
Lead, and participate in cross-functional teams to establish early supplier involvement to achieve performance goals, support project timelines, and manage product costs
Identification and realization of cost saving and cost reduction opportunities.
Support purchasing process improvement initiatives as designated by the Procurement lead.
Ensure that Sourcing & Purchasing procedures are being implemented.
Provide internal customers with answers to sourcing and purchasing process inquiries.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree plus ten (10) years of experience in purchasing, operations and management.
Experience in a large branded consumer products goods company, as well as experience at a more entrepreneurial and fast-paced middle market company strongly preferred.
Experience with strategic sourcing processes including total cost of ownership and risk management.
Project Management skills, including the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Strong organizational, planning, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
Excellent knowledge of Excel, Power
Point and an MRP system (SAP preferred)
Competencies/Skills/Qualifications:
Familiar with the manufacturing process
Strong understanding of the packaging lifecycle
Experience in launching new products / new product developments
Strong negotiating skills
Excellent communicator and strong team player who is able to work across multiple functions
Ability to analyze and solve problems, results-oriented
Strong project management skills, with the ability to drive initiatives to completion
Ability to work in a fast-paced, often-changing environment
Ability to work well with cross-functional teams
Solutions-oriented and target driven
Able to develop and maintain excellent industry relationships and has an excellent grasp of market factors, technical product knowledge, logistics and quality requirements
