Position Summary:
The Data Science team at Horizon Therapeutics is looking for an extraordinary data scientist who is passionate about crafting, developing, and fielding data science solutions that drives impact for patients. The Data Scientist, Medical Research will partner with Horizon's various medical teams (Med Affairs, R&D, Commercial Development) to develop insights and understanding from data.
This role will leverage cutting edge data science technologies and methods to help produce health outcomes publications, as well as uncover deeper insights about how our life-changing medicines are being used. The Data Scientist will be a key functional contributor, and must understand the medical landscape surrounding our products, as well as the analytics techniques necessary to produce publishable insights.
They should be comfortable working with large, complex, and noisy datasets. The data scientist will automate recurring deliverables, manipulate transactional data to usable formats, and present clear visualizations.
Responsibilities and Skills Required:
Develop a deep understanding of available data sources, including data capture methodologies, sampling requirements, and descriptive statistics
Implement advanced analytics in support of our Medical Affairs, R&D, and Commercial Development teams, including applications of machine learning and statistically sound research
Create insightful visualizations that can help a non-technical audience make sense of complex datasets
Proactively identify opportunities for leveraging data science to solve unmet medical needs
Transform uncovered analytics insights into medical publications
Support ad hoc data projects and tasks as needed
Ability to manage multiple projects in an ambiguous environment with shifting priorities and time-pressure
Excellent problem solving capabilities
Attention to detail - this role will be helping to product publishable medical abstracts
Strong communication skills (verbal and written); proven ability to work cross functionally and liaise across a complex set of stakeholders
Qualifications Required:
BA/BS in Statistics, Operational Research, Computer Science, or other quantitative discipline
Master's degree preferred but not required
Health outcomes research experience strongly preferred, particularly using large claims datasets
Track record of innovative thinking with machine learning and statistical algorithms
Proven experience with the Py
Data stack, (Python, pandas, sci-kit learn), distributed computing technologies for machine learning, such as Apache Spark and Linux
Experience in biotech / pharmaceuticals preferred but not required
