Join the Six Flags Great Adventure Safari team as an Educator 1. As a part of the animal care team you will provide animals with proper nutrition, sanitary living conditions, and continual care. Primary responsibilities include educating guests about animals and the importance of species survival and conservation.

Qualifications:

18 years of age or older.

Must have a valid driver’s license.

Has achieved a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Psychology, or related field.

At least 1 year of experience working with exotic animals.

Knowledge and experience using operant conditioning.

Maintain a positive and professional attitude that fosters an environment of teamwork and learning that is respectful of all team members.

Able to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.

Outgoing, approachable, and positive attitude.

Be able to lift and move 50 pounds or more.

Be able to stand or sit for long periods of time, bend, crouch, or climb.

Be available to work 40 hours a week during the height of the season including holidays and weekends.

Individuals must be able to work in or around water and be exposed to all outdoor weather conditions.

Applicants must have at least one weekend day availability. Open weekend availability preferred. Must be able to work holidays.

Educator Responsibilities:

Complete area tasks including cleaning and feeding birds, reptiles, hoof stock, or mammals.

Participate in supervised education animal training sessions with parrots, birds of prey and mammals based on your understanding of operant conditioning principles.

Participate in supervised sea lion training sessions based on the area you are assigned and your understanding of operant conditioning principles.

Handle reptiles based on your understanding of protocols.

Write and implement a behavioral approximation plan.

Prepare all animal diets and administer vitamins or supplements including sea lions.

Make daily observations of animals and report any abnormalities to supervisor.

Utilize ZIMS (animal records software) and properly input all animal husbandry including diets, weights, treatments, etc.

Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Memorize all safari animal species facts in a timely manner.

Stand in zone and talk with guests about the animals in that zone.

Perform informal keeper talks to public on and off microphone.

Participate in our Safari Programs as assigned.

Be available to cross train in other areas of Safari including Gate Guard, Tour Guide, Safari Discoveries and Camp Aventura.

Support our Save an Icon conservation initiative by communicating the program to guests.

Maintain a safe and clean work area for coworkers, guests, and animals.

Adhere to all Six Flags and Safari Department policies and protocols.
