This position contributes to Starbucks success by assuming a solid understanding of business problems or opportunities, the relevant business and technology metrics, and creating well-formed epics or user stories for engineering teams, to help them design, build, release, and monitor technical solutions efficiently.

To be successful, technical product managers should be comfortable working in a collaborative environment along with a passion for creating simple and engaging experiences.

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Product Definition & Value

  • Capture business needs, with an understanding of market demands and technical trends.
  • Assist with product planning through day to day collaboration and decision making with a cross-functional team including engineers and business partners.
  • Capture non-functional requirements including performance, scalability, resilience, usability, accessibility, security, and business continuity.
  • Create dashboard/reporting requirements and KPIs to measure product performance
  • Identify opportunities to improve feature performance and overall product health.
  • Measure feature success post deployment and feed insights back to the team and business partners.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Interact with business stakeholders to understand business problems.
  • Present options clearly and persuasively to support business stakeholder decisions
  • Work with engineering teams to understand, prioritize and document technical and non-functional features.

Product Planning & Delivery

  • Practice iterative, agile development.
  • Document technical tradeoffs as well as dependencies and constraints.
  • Facilitate user review/acceptance testing.
  • Help eliminate blocking issues during development.
  • Work with cross-functional teams on feature sizing and delivery planning.
  • Communicate product delivery milestones and progress.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or relevant field
  • Demonstrated ability to use analytics and optimization tools to inform product planning and prioritization (2 years)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with design and engineering to deliver customer facing features (2 years)
  • Industry experience in a technology environment with a record of successfully delivering complex products (2 years)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands on experience in documenting and prioritizing features, story outlines, writing user stories, refining product backlogs, and coordinating/prioritizing conflicting requirements in a fast-paced, changing environment with variety of stakeholders
  • Detailed and results-oriented, able to analyze data to justify product decisions and apply key learnings.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Consistently uses communications skills to influence outcomes within a known skill set
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of agile development practices, methodologies, and tools
  • Technical knowledge in web and mobile applications
  • Knowledgeable of agile/scrum methodology and user centric design; may be certified product owner; may collaborate with PMO/scrum master on project methodology to highlight issues and help as needed for product lifecycle
