MANAGING EDITOR

Feast, an award-winning local magazine covering food and drink across the St. Louis metro area, is seeking a full-time Managing Editor. The Managing Editor is directly responsible for developing and managing the production calendar of the magazine’s print and digital content, from small blurbs to features, ensuring the relevance and timeliness of Feast’s coverage and making sure contributors meet deadlines and deliver outstanding content.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assigns all print content, ensuring that deadlines are established and kept. Edits and is accountable for all print content, including coordinating with fact checker, copy editor and proofreader to ensure accuracy and adherence to house and AP style.

Models good writing, editing and deadline compliance, and manages a team of freelance as well as in-house writers and editors.

Collaborates with digital editor on online and multimedia content schedule.

Writes and reports as needed for the print magazine and website.

Works with editor-in-chief to develop themes for editorial calendar and set strategic voice and vision for publication.

Manages editorial print budget, including collecting and processing all freelance writer invoices.

Acts as representative for the magazine, attending events and promoting the brand in the community.

Stays on top of what’s current in the local food scene and keeps abreast of national culinary trends.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media Communications or related field and at least five years of progressive experience in culinary/lifestyle magazine editing and content development.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Demonstrated progressive experience in magazine publishing

Understanding of and experience in digital and social media

Ability to manage a budget and juggle multiple deadlines and projects

Desire to connect with the local culinary industry and develop strong working relationships with contributors

Command of editorial best practices and AP style

Working knowledge of In

Design, Microsoft Word, Photoshop (or other image-editing software) and the ability to work within a CMS

Passion for the food scene and a hands-on understanding of cooking and baking

COMPENSATION

Competitive salary with a choice of three medical plans, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, 401(k) with company match, generous vacation and work-from-home policies. Relocation costs will not be reimbursed.
