We are hiring Bus Operators to operate vehicles for the Waukesha Metro Transit throughout the greater Waukesha area. All Operators will be hired on a part-time basis averaging approximately 30 hours weekly, to fill full-time positions as they become available.

Responsibilities:

Safe operation of the transit vehicle while following routes and schedules.

Informing customers about fares, routes, schedules, and operating rules.

Announcing major intersections, transfer points, and points of interest.

Assisting disabled passengers in boarding and exiting the vehicle.

Prompt and regular attendance.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Must have a valid driver's license and an excellent driving record.

A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is not required to apply; however, a CDL Instruction Permit will be required before starting training. A CDL must be acquired before completion of training.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.

Must have strong customer service skills including interaction with customers, problem-solving, and customer assistance.

Previous bus or other heavy duty vehicle driving experience preferred.

Have the ability to apply proper driving procedures.

Have the ability to learn transit routes and schedules and adapt to changes; ability to read a map.

Have the ability to read, understand, and interpret transit system operating rules, regulations, policies, and routes.

Have the ability to assist handicapped passengers when needed.

Must submit to drug testing and a criminal and employment background check.

Must be able to maintain a DOT medical card.

Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.

Primarily seated in vehicle; stress caused by passengers and traffic.

Must be able to work in all types of weather.

All candidates will be subject to both criminal and employment background checks and must pass a medical evaluation and drug screen. New Operators are required to complete a 4-week training program. Additionally, the ideal candidate must have a Wisconsin CDL or CDL Instruction Permit with Passenger endorsement and airbrakes.

CDL training will be provided if trainee has CDL Instruction Permit.
